What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
SEO is the process of improving your website's position in keyword-based search results across search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing and others. The main objective of any SEO initiative is to boost a website's ranking for particular 'keyword' phrases or search terms used by online consumers. Search engines rank websites in their 'organic' (ie non paid-for) results based on how relevant they believe a site is to a user's search term. Optimising your site for these search engines is important because online consumers rarely look beyond the first few pages of search results returned.

Rankings often change because Google and the other search engines are constantly changing the algorithms (ie the formulas) they use to decide who ranks where for any given search term. This means that you cannot guarantee your site will keep hold of its top positions. Furthermore, if your competitors are also using SEO, they may leap-frog you in the rankings. If and when your website makes it to the first page of a search engine, it's important that you maintain these positions - and push even higher up the list - through an ongoing process of SEO. Yes. In order to successfully optimise your website, we will need access to it.
What kind of access will you need?
We will need FTP details to access the 'back end' of your site. If your website runs off a Content Management System (CMS), we will also require access to this. But rest assured - your details will remain secure and confidential.
Where can I get FTP details and CMS details from?
Your web designer should usually have these details. You should also have received them when you set up your website hosting.
Will you be making changes to my website?
Yes. But as a general rule, the changes made are in the site's 'back end' and will not affect the look or feel of your site, or how users interact with it. Changes need to be made to ensure keywords are included in the content and titles of your website. We may also request you add or change headings, add footer links and edit meta tags. All these things will help achieve the best optimisation results. In some cases, we may also edit or extend the CMS code used to publish your website, or work with you to add more content to certain pages.
